Sam Sells, Founder
Sam Sells began working in the field of financial planning while still a student at the University of Houston on a basketball scholarship. Upon graduation in 1958, he started his own company.
In 1960 Sam joined a major life insurance company, working closely with the Vice President. In this capacity, he assisted with human relations responsibilities across the country. He was eventually sent to San Jose, California, to develop business in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.
In 1967, Sam founded Sells Financial and was an early pioneer of some of the first defined benefit pension plans for professional corporations in the country. He has been on the board of numerous religious and philanthropic organizations and has represented several large insurance companies as national sales leader.
Perhaps his greatest joy has been his interactions with his four children including coaching them in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He has been married to his wife Shirley for 60 years. Together they share 14 grandchildren.
Stan Sells, President
As Sam’s oldest son, Stan was destined to join Sells Financial from a young age. In high school Stan spent his summers helping in the practice in varying capacities and then went on to get his business degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an International Concentration in business administration from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Upon his return from overseas Stan joined Sam full time in 1987 focusing on advanced planning.
With a passion for ongoing continuing education, Stan remains at the top of his field in the financial areas in which he specializes. A skilled speaker and presenter, Stan is often requested to present and lead training sessions for his peers and enjoys his opportunities to share his knowledge with clients and others seeking solutions to their complex planning challenges.
In his spare time, Stan and his wife of 25 years enjoy spending quality time with their four children, watching them participate in their various school, athletic, and church activities. With a life-long love of food, Stan enjoys cooking and gets great joy out of preparing dishes for friends and family.
